Deion Sanders has brought an immeasurable amount of attention to Jackson State in the last six months. Tonight he’ll bring a little more on one of the world’s largest media stages. Sanders will appear in a Frito-Lay commercial during Sunday’s Super Bowl broadcast.
The commercial entitled: ‘Twas the Night Before Super Bowl, features Marshawn Lynch, Peyton and Eli Manning, Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw, Jerome Bettis and Sanders. In the commercial Sanders is representing the Cheetos brand of snacks and references his Super Bowl appearance with the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys.
Deion Sanders won two Super Bowls during his career. He started at cornerback for the 49ers in Super Bowl XXIX and the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XXX.
This isn’t Sanders’ first go around with a Super Bowl commercial. One of his more famous spots was his appearance as “Leon Sandcastle” in a 2013 commercial. Ironically the fictional character played by Sanders was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the commercial. The Chiefs are looking to win back to back Super Bowls when they kick off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday nights. This would be sans one “Leon Sandcastle” of course.
Sunday’s Super Bowl features a handful of HBCU players on both sides of the ball. Kansas City has two players from South Carolina State on its roster. Tampa Bay features former players from North Carolina Central University and Prairie View A&M.
