Alabama A&M beats Morehouse in inaugural Black College Football Hall of Fame game

The first-ever Black College Football Hall of Fame game was one for the books as Alabama A&M outlasted Morehouse. Barely.

Alabama A&M and Morehouse faced off on Sunday in Canton, OH in the introductory Black College Football Hall of Fame game. Morehouse showed cavalier effort in the fourth quarter, but AAMU headed home with an impressive 35-30 win.

AAMU quarterback Aqueel Glass threw for four touchdowns, including the game-winner to Brian Jenkins Jr. with three seconds remaining in the game. Glass finished 28-for-44 passing for 397 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. Jenkins led receivers with 12 receptions for 120 yards.

A&M found the endzone in the first 15 seconds of the game to take a quick 7-0 lead. Both teams exchanged punting drives throughout the majority of the first quarter; Morehouse had a promising drive to close the quarter, but a missed field goal early in the second quarter kept them scoreless. With 8:17 left before halftime, Morehouse landed a 59-yard bomb in the endzone to tie the game. The Bulldogs responded with a rushing touchdown on their next drive to take a 14-7 lead, but a Morehouse field goal just before halftime cut the lead to four points.

Play to win

Alabama A&M found the endzone twice through the air in the third quarter, most impressively from a 43-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Glass with 4:28 left to push the lead to an imposing 28-10. The Maroon Tigers responded with their own run of scoring drives, scoring 20 unanswered.

Morehouse cut the deficit to 28-24 with 11:20 remaining in regulation. They kept their foot on the gas and took a 30-28 lead with a one yard rushing touchdown and missed extra point with 1:01 remaining. All the Bulldogs needed was a field goal to win it, but they wanted, and got, more.

AAMU will have a short week as it preps for its Saturday against University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 6 PM.
