Howard’s Daniel to undergo surgery

By Steven J. Gaither

Two days after ending a six-game losing streak, Howard basketball took another hit on Wednesday as it officially closed the book on the return of its star player this season.

James Daniel, the leading scorer in off of Division I basketball last season, will be shelved for the rest of the season and undergo surgery to repair a high ankle sprain, the program announced. The Preseason MEAC Player of the Year is scheduled to undergo surgery and recovery time is four-to six weeks.

Daniel has missed all but two games this season with the injury, which he suffered during the preseason. The Hampton, VA native averaged 27.1 points per game in 2015-16, but averaged just 17 ppg in two contests this season.
