Bethune-Cookman University’s motto is “Enter to learn, Depart to serve,” and Cesley Tafoya is taking that to heart.

The former BCU softball standout has pledged to contribute financially to the school’s softball program on a yearly-basis beginning this year.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without Bethune-Cookman,” Tafoya, who now works for the MEAC, said via BCUAthletics.com. “I want to see the softball team and those girls not only continue to be successful on the field, but to grow and reach their career goals. Working on the other side of the ball in administration has shown me what it takes to do that. And that’s why I’m going to do my best to write a check every year.”

And BCU is hoping that other former student-athletes and young alumni follow the three-time MEAC champion’s lead in supporting the program after graduation.

“It’s important that our young alumni recognize the financial challenges of maintaining a successful Division I athletics program,” BCU VP of Intercollegiate Athletics Lynn W. Thompson said. “I’m delighted to see that Cesley appreciates the importance of giving back, and hope that vision spreads throughout that age group in particular and all the Wildcats Nation as well.”
