Week Six has arrived in the SWAC, and it’s a rather light one. TexasSouthern, Southern, Grambling, Jackson State, and Arkansas Pine-Bluff have a BYE week, so there are only three games this week. Here’s what I got:

Alcorn Statevs. AlabamaA&M

Both teams in this matchup are trying to find their way to climb back into the SWAC East standings. Alcorn Statelost against Arkansas 52-10 in a non-conference, Money Game matchup. The Braves allowed 559 total yards on defense with 353 of those yards belonging to the running game. Alabama A&M lost a heartbreaker against Texas Southern last week due to kicker Eric Medina sealing the game with a 51 yard field goal to beat the Bulldogs last week. Freshman Jordan Bentley had a total of 151 all purpose yards with four touchdowns. If the Braves want to win this game they have to stop Mr. Bentley. If not they can kiss this game goodbye.

PREDICTION: Alabama A&M 31, Alcorn State 25

Alabama State vs. Prairie View A&M

Prairie View A&M was defeated by the Grambling State 36-16 last week. The Panthers was tied with the Tigers 16-16 at halftime, but GSU shut them out in the second half. Quarterback Trey Green continues to struggle this season, Green was 20-for-40 for 205 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions. That makes nine interceptions for Green this season after throwing just three all last year.
Alabama State won their first game of the season defeating Arkansas Pine-Bluff 41-21. Running back Khalid Thomas had 22 carries for 143 yards with two touchdowns! This matchup is Prairie View’s homecoming game and PVAMU will want to come out and play their best football as they attempt top play catch-up with Southern and Grambling!

PREDICTION: Prairie View 40, Alabama State 28

Mississippi ValleyState vs. Montana

MississippiValley Statealmost got the first victory this season against Jackson State, but came up short against the Tigers 16-14. MSVS quarterback Austin Bray was 17-24 for 164 yards with one touchdown and one interception. The Delta Devils defense could not stop the running game allowing 198 yards on the ground to the Tigers.  Valley will take on FCS power Montana in a non-conference matchup this Saturday. Montanadominated Southern Utah 43-20, putting 627 yards on offense, including 425 yards through the air. Quarterback Brady Gustafson threw for 415 yards with four touchdowns and one interception in the contest. This matchup will be good to see how MSVS will match up against the Grizzlies, and hope no one leaves the game with a major injury.

PREDICTION: Montana54, Mississippi Valley State0
