Potential FAMU-Tuskegee Classic could be a (big) thing

Two of HBCU football’s most historically successful programs could soon be meeting on the field. Sources tell HBCU Gameday that Florida A&M and Tuskegee will play each other in 2016. The source said date or location hasn’t been announced.

While the two teams are currently in different divisions, they have shared history. Both schools are founding members of the SIAC, where Tuskegee still competes. FAMU was actually a member of the SIAC when it won the Division I-AA title in 1978,  before moving to the MEAC in 1979.

Neither school has announced their schedules, but if it happens, its unlikely the game will be played in Alabama. FAMU could host the game at Bragg Stadium, but new AD Milton Overton has already said he’d like to establish more classics in Atlanta and Miami.

A FAMU-Tuskegee game has the potential to be a successful one in Atlanta. Tuskegee is located less than two hours away, and FAMU has alumni all over. Both teams could use the money a successful classic would bring. Tuskegee is gearing up for a Division II national title run while FAMU is trying to rebound from a tough couple of years on the football field.

If it’s done right, this could be a big deal.

Wherever this game is played, it would be a good look for black college football. These two programs have traditionally been among the best in HBCU football, and have alumni bases to make this a win in Florida or Georgia.

Stay tuned for more.

This would be great for both schools. The game could be played in ATL or Tallahassee and make a lot of money.

Tuskegee used to play FAM in the 80s and 90s.

I would love to see this game in Miami, but Atlanta or Orlando would draw a larger crowd from both schools
