Kid Heartless MEAC Picks: Week Four

By Henry Funny

Game of the Week: Hampton (2-1) at Norfolk State (0-3): A monumental weekend in the Tidewater is upon us. The two early sleepers of the MEAC will meet to see who will have the upper hand on a surprise MEAC title run.

Hampton has an offense that can put up points in bunches. If the defense can play a complete game, then we definitely have a darkhorse squad coming out of the murky waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Look for a balanced run/pass attack from the Pirates as the try to keep things rolling after knocking off Howard in the Nation’s Football Classic.

Norfolk State’s transfer QB Greg Hankerson continues to impress after three weeks of  FBS opponents. Leading the Spartans to early scores and leads before the depth kicked in and opposing offenses piled on the points. The NSU defense is being led by senior linebacker Deon King. King, through three games has racked up 54 tackles, which is the most in all of FCS football.

Looks like we’re in for a real slobber-knocker in Norfolk where the number of options Hampton can hurt you with gets to be too much in the later moments in the game.

Heartless pick: Hampton

Morgan St (0-2) at Howard (0-3): I know what you’re thinking Morgan fans. Morgan State should be 1-2, right? Yes, but still, no. That beat down of VUL last Saturday doesn’t count per the new NCAA sanctions.
I also know what you’re thinking Howard fans. You guys put finally put up some points and caused some turnovers during the game with Hampton so the season isn’t lost and you should be competitive, right? The score was closer than many would’ve given Howard after games at App St and Boston College. The offense showed life and the defense indeed forced turnovers. That shouldn’t stop Morgan State from running wild all over Howard in the 18th Chicago Football Classic.
Heartless Pick: Morgan St.
Savannah State (0-2) at Bethune-Cookman (2-1):  The expected blowout of Savannah St at the hands of Akron wasn’t what expected during the game’s first quarter. The defense was scrappy, forced turnovers, and returned a blocked FG for a touchdown that would give them a 9-7 lead. True freshman quarterback David Handler showed some poise in his first start but Akron eventually put them away in classic FBS vs FCS fashion.
Could be something to build on for the future there in Savannah?
Bethune-Cookman’s performance was very underwhelming against Division II foe, Lane. They should be able to return to form after the 7-3 victory and silence some of the doubters.
Heartless Pick: Bethune-Cookman
Tennessee State (2-1) at Florida A&M (0-3): It’s good to see old rivals Tennessee State head to Tallahassee, FL after suffering their first loss of the year to an impressive Jacksonville State team. Yes, the one that likely should’ve beat Auburn.
They’re bringing the band and the pain to a Florida A&M team that was blanked last Thursday 36-0 at South Carolina St.
Heartless Pick: Give me the tigers.
