WSSU AD Bill Hayes To Retire

As reported earlier this week, Bill Hayes’ second tetnure at Winston-Salem State is now over. The univerisity announced today that Hayes, 70, will retire from his role as athletic director effective Feb. 28. 

WSSU Chancellor Donald L. Reaves spoke about the impact Hayes has had on the program. 

“One of the reasons that I hired Bill Hayes was because he was a seasoned administrator, and I knew his impact would be immediate. Since his arrival, Bill has worked tirelessly to enhance the stature of our athletic program, and in doing so, our teams have won 14 conference championships under his leadership.”

Senior Woman Administrator Tonia Walker is currently acting as AD as the school prepares for a nationwide search to replace Hayes.

Hayes previously coached football at WSSU and North Carolina A&T for over 25 years.
