Getting To Know: Jackson State’s Qua Cox

Jackson State’s Qua Cox picked off five passes in seven games in 2012.

The 2013 NFL Draft may have ended just over two days ago, but scouts are already starting to turn their attention to the 2014 class.

When it comes to small school prospects, specifically from HBCUs, Damon Talbot knows how to spot talent. As an NFL scout and lead writer for NFL Draft Zone, Talbot was a big advocate for several players who were either drafted or signed as priority free agents last weekend.

That list included Howard’s Keith Pough (Bills), Lane’s Vernon Kearney (Bills), Alabama A&M’s Jamal Johnson-Webb (Cardinals) and several others.

When asked to name the top HBCU prospects for next year’s draft, Jackson State cornerback Qua Cox was the first name on his list.

The 6’0, 185 pound defensive back from Tuskegee, Alabama picked off five passes in just seven games while helping Jackson State win the SWAC’s Eastern Division and make its first appearance in the SWAC Championship Game since 2008.
